Above & Right: Wizz Scammel and Just a Nightmare at Burghley 4 Star 3 Day Event

Wizz Scammell owner and rider of best Burghley Mare 2007 "Just A Nightmare" has confirmed she will be using Classic Primitive for her forthcoming breeding programme.

The little bay mare who is under 16 hands and has a stunning record of 3 star runs, is now entered at Badminton for the 2009 Four Star Horse Trials.

Interviewed at Belton Horse Trials; Wizz, who produces all her own horses to the very top level hopes to breed another top class Eventer from the combination of the two and selected Classic Primitive based on his movement and ability to retain the gallop for her incredibly brave mare who is infamous for having a fearless heart across country.

Found by Jeremy Spring who suggested to Wizz that she bought "Just A Nightmare" (known as Mouse at home) whilst competing at Blair; the bay mare is by Master Monarch who has also sired a 3 star three day event winner in North America.   Wizz has a number of upcoming very talented young horses which she has produced herself from her yard in Gloucestershire.

Said Wizz of the forthcoming foal " I want to keep Mouse's bravery but improve her dressage and with Classic Primitive's elevated movement I hope that the new foal will be all of Mouse and just a little bit better moving".

Wizz is undecided if she will have a foal naturally later in the year or to try and conceive one earlier via Embryo Transfer at Twemlows in Shropshire.  Just A Nightmare has a busy calendar of further 3 star runs after Badminton both in the UK and Germany and the outcome of these will depend upon whether the tenacious little mare continues to compete or takes advantage of an Embryo Transfer programme.

Wizz has already been approached by a Gloucestershire farmer for one of the forthcoming Mouse/Classic Primitive progeny - but very tactfully declined to fulfill a sale!.

All the Gemini team wish Wizz & Mouse the very best of luck at Badminton this spring and later in the year at Blenheim.

Cufflink Sold to Gaby Cooke CCI * Star Winner

Cufflink - the full brother to Gemini Studs PAVO Winning Stalion Classic Primitive has been sold to Advanced Event Rider Gaby Cooke.  Gaby, who won the Jardy CCI * Three Day Event in France last year, and was also second at Weston Park in the CCI * U21 competition; is based at her parents yard at Market Overton Leicestershire.

Fresh from qualifying for Chatsworth in the Advanced at Belton, Gaby said of buying the full brother to the Classic Primitive "I plan to quietly produce him as a top class event horse.  The first time I saw him I thought he was a lovely strong type, with excellent bone, tonnes of quality, faultless confirmation, powerful and a real athlete.    What really applealed to me about him was his excellent pedigree, good temperament - and a bit of sparkle".

Georgie Belton said - "Whilst I am sorry to sell Cufflink who is absolutely one of a pair to his full brother - hence the name!, he could not have gone to a better home".  "He will be with a group of other youngsters and then beautifully produced by the Cooke family who have help from Dressage Producer Chris White, Event Rider Caroline Moore and Di Lampard.  He could not have gone to a better home and I cannot wait to see him under saddle!".

Claire Lomas Walking - Intermediate Mare Under Warranty & Classic Primitive

Under Warranty Intermediate Event Mare

Last spring Gemini supported the Claire Lomas Walking campaign as Eventer Claire is based only a few miles down the road from us in Melton Mowbray.  Her family hosted an auction evening to raise funds for the Claire Lomas Walking campaign and Gemini donated one lot of a covering to either Classic Primitive or Furst Opera.

Nicki Grayson and her mother Wynne Rees were the succesful bidders and chose to use Classic Primitive (Jack) during the 2009 Stud Season. They very kindly came to see Jack over the Easter Weekend and loved him so much that they booked him to a second mare ! Foxy, who also succesfully evented up to intermediate - up to Intermediate Level.

Nicki and Wynne have booked Grey Suede who evented at Novice Level and Under Warranty their Intermediate Mare by Louella Inschallah who was evented by both Gutto De Ferra and Polly Jackson for this season and hope to breed future Eventers from both mares.  Wynne has bred many succesful sports horses from her Leicestershire farm and is very excited about the two Classic Primitive foals from her two proven home bred mares".
