Above & Right: Wizz Scammel and Just a Nightmare at Burghley 4 Star 3 Day Event
Wizz Scammell owner and rider of best Burghley Mare 2007 "Just A Nightmare" has confirmed she will be using Classic Primitive for her forthcoming breeding programme.
The little bay mare who is under 16 hands and has a stunning record of 3 star runs, is now entered at Badminton for the 2009 Four Star Horse Trials.
Interviewed at Belton Horse Trials; Wizz, who produces all her own horses to the very top level hopes to breed another top class Eventer from the combination of the two and selected Classic Primitive based on his movement and ability to retain the gallop for her incredibly brave mare who is infamous for having a fearless heart across country.
Found by Jeremy Spring who suggested to Wizz that she bought "Just A Nightmare" (known as Mouse at home) whilst competing at Blair; the bay mare is by Master Monarch who has also sired a 3 star three day event winner in North America. Wizz has a number of upcoming very talented young horses which she has produced herself from her yard in Gloucestershire.
Said Wizz of the forthcoming foal " I want to keep Mouse's bravery but improve her dressage and with Classic Primitive's elevated movement I hope that the new foal will be all of Mouse and just a little bit better moving".
Wizz is undecided if she will have a foal naturally later in the year or to try and conceive one earlier via Embryo Transfer at Twemlows in Shropshire. Just A Nightmare has a busy calendar of further 3 star runs after Badminton both in the UK and Germany and the outcome of these will depend upon whether the tenacious little mare continues to compete or takes advantage of an Embryo Transfer programme.
Wizz has already been approached by a Gloucestershire farmer for one of the forthcoming Mouse/Classic Primitive progeny - but very tactfully declined to fulfill a sale!.
All the Gemini team wish Wizz & Mouse the very best of luck at Badminton this spring and later in the year at Blenheim. |
